The traditional Rio do Sul Book Fair begins a new phase and turns into the Alto Vale do Itajaí Literary Festival. The expansion strengthens Rio do Sul as a literary hub in the region and extends the scope of the event by bringing together cities, schools, students, authors, readers and institutions around books, reading and the different narratives that travel through the valleys.

With an artistic, cultural and formative programming, the festival promotes experiences of enchantment, discovery and knowledge. Workshops, debates and other activities bring the population closer to literary diversity, encourage the formation of readers and writers and promote the exchange between authors, teachers, art-educators and professionals from different regions of the country.

The event also contributes to the preservation of memory, the strengthening of belonging and the circulation of ideas between the 28 municipalities of the Upper Itajaí Valley.In addition to stimulating the publication of works in print and digital media, the literary trade and the organization of the sector, the festival creates a meeting territory in which different voices share their identities and build new stories.

The program is developed in accordance with the guidelines of the Sector of Book, Reading and Literature of the Municipal Council of Cultural Policy and endorsed by the Association of Writers. The event also has spaces intended for publishers and bookstores and with the institutional participation of the Cultural Foundation of Rio do Sul, the Municipal Public Library Nereu Ramos and the Historic and Cultural Museum.

The Literary Festival of the Alto Vale do Itajaí is held by the Prefecture of Rio do Sul, through the Cultural Foundation of Rio do Sul and the Municipal Public Library Nereu Ramos, giving continuity to the Book Fair of Rio do Sul, established by the Municipal Law No. 5.363, of December 17, 2012.
